Super Macro

Trying to used my Raynox 250 macro filter. Supposed to be the best filter for macro shoot and adaptable to any lens. Hell, the price itself is quite high but cheaper for an alternative macro lens. It does its work but very hard to focus and my 18-250mm lens cause a lot of vignette and I cannot use my Live View to take the shots.

Here’s a few pictures I’ve taken. Not that good quality but still learning to use it and hopefully will get better after some practice.

Will post more pictures once I get the hang of it.

Eager Model Photo shoot

The photos was taken on 2/01/2010, whic is the second day of 2010. She’s an eager model with desire to be one. Practice makes perfect. So do I. I am not a fan of model photo shoot because I am more of a “macro” person. But interest do let in for a while and join my fellow buddies for the model shoot. The model is actually one of my colleagues and so does the photographer.

Some of the best photos I’ve taken.

It has been a while I’ve taken model as a subject but I do say it was fun. To all the guys and ladies, lets do it again. Now…where is a good spot besides the beach?

The Brother Progress

It has been awhile I’ve not updated Maximillian photos here. It seems that Maximillian loves to be photography just like the sister. Max is age is coming to 4 months now and he seems to be a active baby boy. Trying to progress faster than any other baby. This include trying to get up by himself. Good progress. Got few photos of him recently and hope you enjoy.

Please comment if you like the photos.

A Begining to and End

What does the topic means? Well it is a full statement of my revenge against thieves that stolen my A300 6 months ago. Yes, 6 months ago my house where broken into and they took everything that I ever work for and this include my passion.

Two days ago I bought myself a new Sony A550 and this time I am not leaving at home again. Bought a few lens and an external flash. My favourite was the new Sony DT30mm/F2.8 Macro SAM lens. It is the latest addition to the Sony family and I can the lens is great and plus, the price is very reasonable.

Got my daughter to experiment, as usual the not camera shy Charmen. She posses a few shots and you can be the judge of the result. One thing for sure SitakDebak.com is back in business again.

The Abstract Painting

Charmen and me went to the Curtin 09 Family Day this morning. Oh boy, I was tried just watching over her. She enjoy herself with all the other kids. Playing and blowing bubbles was some of the activity. The favourite of her is mural painting. It was supposed to be an underwater view with sunken ship and water creature but the kids got creative and it became an abstract mural instead. Charmen on the other hand, just love the painting part and painted everywhere it seems to fit her creative mind. Below are some of the pictures I took and be kept for her to view in the future (in case she wanted to be a painter or artist in the future).

SITAKDEBAK.COM is worth $189.80

This is a real interesting fact about my site. Talking about site statistics this is great. I was going through some site that offers statistics and was wondering what does sitakdebak.com is worth now since the day it was born. Since I’ve include some Google ads in the blog it should have some value with the traffic it is driving.

I found two interesting sites that offers statistics.
1.  www.websiteoutlook.com
2.  www.alexa.com

From the two sites, I’ve found out that my sitakdebak.com is now actually worth $189.80 and ranked 12,662,947 from other sites that is available on the internet. Not sure whether this is true or not as the basis of the ranking is not known. It should be based on traffic but how did they gauge it? Below are some screen shots.

I like it because sitakdebak.com has a value and thinking of more ideas to increase the value. Anyway if you guys feel that your site has a value, check out the two sites listed. Happy valuing guys.

Another Alpha coming?

Well just as I am starting to be excited with the recently launched Sony A230, 330 and 380, there is a purported rumours that a new Alpha is coming. Behold, the new A500. Well it was purportedly leaked at Sony Style Canada website. The leak is similar to the other three models where it was leaked at Sony Style UK site.

518002143_rvs6s-l

It looks like the old A300 and A350 model but with different specs, duhhh!!!. It just like technology is never be prefect, there is always new addition. No that I don’t like the Alpha, but it seems that it is package differently and giving decision for a price.

518002139_edyrc-l

Rumours camera model or package:

  • DSLRA500
  • DSLRA500S
  • DSLRA550
  • DSLRA550S

Rumours camera specs:

  • 17.2 megapixels
  • 2.7-inch 920,000 pixels articulating LCD
  • 8 and 9 AF points (not sure what the machine translation is saying here)
  • 0.98x viewfinder (coverage?)
  • 30 sec to 1/8000th shutter speed
  • ISO 100-12800
  • 4 frames per second
  • Weight 516 grams

Any takers? Well for me it remains to be decided, next year to be exact.

Alpha 330

Guess what? I got an offer from Sony to purchase the latest alpha model a330. It looks tempting since my a300 was stolen from me about a month ago. However I have few doubts on it as in the site it does not specify whether it includes lens kit or not. With a price of RM 2199 it seems that a330 is affordable. It looks like the price of a300 without the lens kit. Well it should explain all. The loan price seems to be tempting also.

I am sharing this just in case you guys wanted to try it. But be fast because free items are offered to the first 33 people who bought the camera and the offer ends this June, 10th.

I am not going for since I am waiting to review the a380 model and the release. Rumours has it that another new model is coming, doubted as a500. So many choices and a long time frame for me to return back to photography. Besides, the previous photos taken using my stolen a300 is still in the bin and waiting for editing. While waiting I am going to post items from my previous photos. Take it as a dedication to my stolen a300.

If you all like to take the offer, the link is here Sony Style Malaysia. Be fast is you want to get the free gifts that come with the purchase.

Cloning onself

As I were relaxing during last long holiday, it occurs to me that my project of cloning myself is still hanging. After being inspire by my friend DigitalFly who did the same last week also. So I decided to do it at the comfort of my living room. It requires a few shots and good lighting and of course position so that it would be easy to photoshop later. Below is the series of pictures taken before it was merge and edited (hopefully it shows well). Four frames was taken and merge to make four Tuansaga.

First picture is laying on the couch. Second is suppose to be watching TV (I mean TV, not the picture in the TV). Third is trying to wake myself up. And the last picture is me again trying to watch the TV on the other couch.

Below is the merge picture of myself. But this time, it is four of me. Interesting photoshop technique and should explore more about this.

Event Horizon

dsc00227Went out to beach with the family last Saturday and having a very fast sunset in the process. It was so fast by the time I’ve tried to switch my lens the sun is almost down. However the horizon reflect a red and blue sky of which I expecting some rays of light might come through. It was a sunny and hot day that Saturday so this might cause mother nature provides the natural lighting and beautiful settings.

I had to play around with the camera shutter and aperature setting in order to get the right pictures. Some are under exposed and others are over exposed. It was learning for me especially using kit lens, managing settings should be the key. Of course if I could get my hands on those f1.4 and f2.8 lens it would be better. But that would have to wait.

Below are some of the pictures that is up to satisfaction. Hope you like it.

Tamu Muhibbah

dsc000551Went out for photo outing this morning and after a long discussion and lens pointing we decide to go to Tamu Muhibbah. It is a place where vegetable, jungle product and other local items that you wish to buy and cook at home. I have not been to the tamu for a long time, if I can remember last year once or twice. This is because we have ourown tamu near to the housing area.

Snap some pictures and manage to talk to some of the sellers on some of the product sold. From my observation the place look deserted where little local produce was sold and very little native selling their jungle product. Back in the years, it was the busiest place in Miri.

Oh well, enough of me talking about Tamu Muhibbah. Below are some of the pictures I took. The first picture really caught my attention and I had to put in. See for yourself.

Work hard, more pain, more relieved after

dsc00257The beginning of April is a grueling week for me as there is 3 events to coordinate in three days. Starting from the 2nd to the 4th of April, it was the testing ground for most of us in the committee that are organising events for the company.

I can tell you that if you are not built to do hard labour it is very back-breaking. On top of that, 3 days of it put salt on the injury. But the satisfaction comes when all planning goes well (never mind the hiccups, that is what post-mortem for) and the events runs smooth.

While in the middle, I still have time to take some photos and there is a lot of it. I have to compile in one album to save space.

In the end, I enjoy and learn in the process. It was challenging but I manage to overcome the challenge. Next task please!!!

Hope you all enjoy the photos.

The Caterpillar

dsc00039Today I received a much awaited package from Hong Kong (pronounce without moving you teeth). Yes my cheap worthy flash unit has arrived. Why buy cheap, hey why sell expensive I say. If it is reliable and serve as a function of a flash, why not. (Ya ka!). A sneak peek is below:

dsc00095

dsc00103

Anyway, the post is not about the flash unit but about a little caterpillar. It was hunted by me in my back garden. I knew I would find something at the back. I got tired of my wall. The little creature basically moving around on a leaf, probably trying to find young leaf.  Seeing some tips on forums saying that “to get a good macro or bokeh, use a flash unit”. So it is my excuse to test the flash unit (start thinking of Madonna song “Like a virgin” now). Surprisingly it did its job but more training for me using the flash photography. Here are the photos of the lovely caterpillar.

Fish food for my Giant Gourami

dsc000231Some people says that I am crazy when comes to taking pictures. In this case the subjects or things that I captured. It is a little bit weird they say. Honestly, I feel that everything is beautiful and meaningful if you capture the picture and see the texture of the thing up-close especially if in macro mode. If we look it at different perspective we sometimes can see a little or major thing on the subject that we could not or did not see or realise using the naked eye.

Another interesting subject that I have taken is this fish worm. I am not very sure of the actual name of the worm but this it is refers to as fish food. The worm is basically for my Giant Gourami (Ikan Kalui in Bahasa) breakfast, lunch and dinner. The Gourami is about 5 years old now and basically we have to change its aquarium 5 times because it keeps growing. It seems that by the end of the year it would need another aquarium. My father has decided to built a pond instead.

Anyway the photos of the worm is below. Hope you like the photos

Bokeh on Milipede

dsc000031This is my tenth time of getting a perfect macro shoot. Still lacking of a flash gun, the pop-up flash will do. However the lacking of flash bounce still creates over exposed pictures. Photoshop needed to be in use. (How I wish my flash gun that I order from e-bay arrive faster, damn those free delivery).

Anway, bugs really like my new wall and it seems that they either it used to be their route previously (it was a chain fence before) or they just like climbing the wall just for fun. This time around I’ve found a milipede (ulat gongok in Bahasa Malaysia), basking around the wall admiring the scenery. Without haste I grab the camera and start shooting the small, smelly (oh yes it smells, try touching it) little creature. Since the loussy pop-up cannot bounce the flash light only few pictures were of good quality. Still manage to get a few before the creature crul-up and fell to the ground.

Learning in process

dsc00022On 18 – 19th March I’ve wentfor a training about “change”. It was a satisfying and experience learning. The training was organise by GEM Consultancy (always try promote them for training) and the trainer was Tengku Naufal. The training was held at the Dynasty Hotel, Miri (the only I like about the hotel is Cafe Rosita). Anyway, I have a new perspective in looking at any “change” subject now after the training. My perception before the training was totally different from the outcome of the training. I’ve perceive that the subject would be a another boring “change” strategy and how we adapt to it. I’ve learnt so many CHANGE subject, be it in my degreee or MBA I always associated change as a dry subject and too many theories. Well I was wrong.

Tengku Naufal was great and well verse in the subject. Although he always look at the theory he is embracing for the subject but he manage to translate the theory into a simple and understandable subject (I think my father would understand it). Totally not a dry subject I can say.

Now I have a clear mind on what I want to do and strategise on my next course of action. Just to let you all know, I about to embarked on a big change missionand it will involve the family and the people I am working with. I am going to use the strategy I learn from the training and use it. Who says that change strategy is for office use only, I feel it is applicable for our daily life it just requires more thinking in doing it.

While at the training I got a few photos shoot and shared here. If you like to comment feel free to do so.

Python and Chickens

dsc00014On Monday morning a python entered my father’s chicken coup. Surprise because seeing a python in the city with housing area heavily populated. Could be from the recent flash flood and the distance of the swamp from my father’s house is not that far.

The python basically tried to swallow 2 of my father’s chicken, since it has strangled 2 of the chicken. The size of the python is not that big in comparison to the chicken. Probably greed got over the snake that my mother woke up in the wee morning and realised that there is a python in the coup.

Arrived in the morning to send my Charmen, and was informed of the incident, I quickly grab my camera and took some of the photo below. I photoshop it a bit to reduce the gruesomest of the situation on the time.

Bugs and Flies

dsc00011Last Sunday was painting day for me. Since concrete wall look so dull without colours so I decide to take the Sunday as my painting day. While doing my painting I found this bug walking and looking at me while I am painting so I decide to take some pictures of it.

The flies really irritates me the most as they keep landing on my refreshment table and of course making themselves at home by sipping coffee and nipping on cakes. Since they are enjoying themselves and don’t mind me taking their pictures so I got a few good shots of them.

Macro Lens Filter

160312816922Recently I bought my self a marco lens filter. It comes with three other close-up filter lens, +1+2+4 close-up. The lens was purchase from e-bay. Seems not to trust any sales from e-bay but hey… someone bought my Sony PS1 through e-bay also. If he can trust me why not me trust the seller.

Anyway, back to the filter lens. The marco lens work real fine but it only works with my 18-55mm lens. It sucks big time with my 55-200mm lens as it is totally blur out. I have to stand very far away from the object in order to get a shot. The 18-55mm lens work well but the getting a focus on the object is quite difficult. Wish I can establish a link with the lens. (I want to capture this picture, snap now). So as you can see below some of the photos are not up to expectation but I feel that I am getting better in using the filter. Now my checklists for next macro shot would be:

  1. Use tripod if possible.
  2. Take ants photo at parents house. (The ants at my house seems to disappear since I got the filter lens).
  3. Take photos of insects.
  4. Make own macro studio, this include a modify lighting.

Well hope to take marco photos again. Need to complete checklist.

The sun was so bright before it and when the time is allmost 7pm, its beauty shows. It is the second day last night that the moon is full. It was a beautiful site as it look so close. I missed out the first day due to flu and thankfully it is a full moon again last night. It is a beautiful view but I think I can do better than this.

Tanjong Lobang

On Saturday, 7 Feb 09, my friend andI when on an outing at Tanjung Lobang Beach (it is in Miri of course). He is a newalpha user so I’ve showed hima few tips on using the camera. Few shots was taken and we were anticipating for the sunset that day. As it turn out the sun is shy and there is no sunset in the evening.

However, the sun is modest enough to show its ray of lights and it is really beautiful.

Water Shoot

This photo was taken back a month ago at my father’s turtle pond. The pipes filter was intentionly left as it is so that the water circulate faster. I like the idea that water gussing at high speed the your are able to take some shot of it. No studio needed, just plain nature.

Way to spent my 2009 Chinese New Year. Early in the morning I’ve a call from my Uncle in helping him moving his stuffs from the old house to his new house. It was a hectic day plus raining intervals. It took the whole day but what spark me is during the bbq we had after that. Meat seems to look nice in close up.

Sarawak Version of Wild Cat

I’ve recently attended the funeral of my late Uncle. No disrespect, what amaze me of the things I found is the caged wild cat he had. I’ve nevered seen one up close so decided to take pictures of the animal.

According to one of my relative, the cat can be found preying in the palm oil farm which is aboundance in Miri. It is quite vicous at night and it is quite difficult for me to take the photo because the eyes keeps shining. However at the day it is very quiet. Probably hunt during the night.

So enjoy the photos below…
